At this age, children are curious, energetic, determined, focused and sometimes stubborn. They are natural explorers of the world and are driven to learn at every opportunity. While they see themselves as much bigger than a little baby and want to do things for themselves, we believe that it is still essential that our educators provide them with learning and care that is warm and responsive to their needs. They are highly evolved and very capable, eager to engage the world and love all things sensory. The educators in Toddler Terrace implement individual programs incorporating the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) to extend and enrich each child’s learning. The framework assists educators in providing children with opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in learning. Fundamental to the framework is a view of children’s lives as characterised by belonging, being, and becoming. Young children are connected to their family, community, and culture. Their earliest development and learning takes place through these relationships, particularly within the families, who are children’s first and most influential educators. As educators we believe that as children develop and participate in everyday life, they develop interests and construct their own identities and understandings of the world. Experiences offered reflect the children’s interests which encourages learning to be meaningful, relevant, and most importantly, enjoyable.
